Joint founder of Bennetts Steel, Peta Simmons, was a founding member of the HBWN in 1999. In 2012, Peta was recognised with a Tall Poppy Life Membership of the HBWN. Both Tanya and Peta have been recognised by the network over the years as Hastings Business Women of the Year, Peta in 2002 and Tanya in 2015. This network has proven over many years to be one of the most encouraging & supportive groups that we have been a part of.

& their motto is that they passionately believe it is the right of every business woman to hold her head high and, like the tall poppy, stand out from the crowd.

PMHC Place Making

We are really proud to be a preferred supplier to Port Macquarie Hastings Council and especially their Place Making team, helping to bring a range of community initiatives to life.

In 2015 we completed a huge range of artistic works, from the very prominent Aboriginal sculpture on town green depicting the first ever recorded surf lifesaving incident off Port Macquarie Town Beach, through to the re-designed totem poles at Cowarra dam.

The Planter boxes in Wauchope's main street and a range of installations in Laurieton. In producing these projects, funded by grants, we worked with Wauchope High School, local Men's Sheds and TAFE to bring life to our communities.

Artist Blacksmiths Association

In September 2016, a striking new World War 1 Cenotaph will be created at the Grote Markt, in front of the In Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres, Belgium. The Cenotaph will be located adjacent to the German War Cemetery at Langemark Poelkapelle.

Standing 7m tall and weighing 12 tonne, the metal Cenotaph for the 21st century will feature the evocative image of a single Flanders poppy surrounded by a field of 2016 steel poppies handcrafted by blacksmiths and farriers worldwide.

Hundreds of blacksmiths and farriers from around the world will come together in Ypres to create the Cenotaph in the week-long event along with litterlaly hundres of blacksmiths world wide that are making the poppies.

Bennetts Steel is once again proud to be part of a community working together have supplied many of the "Poppy Blanks" in readiness for the blacksmiths to work their magic and really bring them to life.

Footprints in Ag

Footprints in Ag is the Next Generation Group of the Mid North Coast Group of Show Societies, working to secure the future of our local Ag shows. It is our privilege to be able to support them both financially and with products to raffle.

North Coast TAFE

Bennetts Steel have worked alongside TAFE on many local projects, as well as undertaking a range of training packages with them. As avid supporters of educating and encouraging our region's youth, TAFE has been the supplier of choice for all of our apprentices and trainees.

We are also incredibly proud to have partnered with Taree TAFE campus to bring to life the 2016 "Girls Can Too" try a trade day in June this year. Giving our youth the opportunity to get their hands dirty & try some traditionally male dominated trades is something we are very passionate about.

2014 Hastings Celebrity Dance For Cancer

Twinkle toes Tanya Simmons got kicked out of the local ballet school at age 5. More than three decades later she bravely took part in the 2014 Hastings Celebrity Dance for Cancer to raise funds for the Cancer Council, helping to raise nearly $60 thousand dollars for cancer council initiatives locally. This entire event was way out of Tanya's comfort zone but she somehow managed to take home the title of "Peoples Choice" on the night. The fact that she looked like she had the most fun of all the dancers & absolutely had the largest and loudest group of supporters in the crowd certainly helped her get this title.

"It was one of the scariest things I have ever done, dancing in front of so many people but the overwhelming feeling of pride overtook all the nerves".
